AYELLE TALK

Ever since we came across Ayelle with her songs ‘Reclaim’ and ‘No Harm’, this London-based musician has stood out with a consistent delivery of brooding and experimental R&B that examines the darker sides of human nature. Her third EP, Slow Clap, which came out just last Friday (August 31st) undoubtedly takes the listeners to those murkier realms, where the truth will out and Ayelle’s vocal reigns supreme. Of all the tracks, we were most drawn to frontrunner ‘Talk’ which opens with a direct question 'is it just too much? / did it get too heavy?' as she explores both sides of an unbalanced relationship through her soulful and technically skilled voice. The production here is truly stunning: icy vocal warps, dramatic bass synths, glitchy electronic beats. It’s very much reminiscent of artists like FKA twigs, Rosie Lowe and Banks, and that’s a crew any of us would happily be part of. Be sure to listen to 'Talk' to the end as Ayelle incorporates her own version of the slow clap. You’ll see what we mean. - Hannah Thacker
